This ol' Town: Bier Deck

I had a pretty fun filled day yesterday. After an eye doctor appointment, I explored the adorable town of Webster Groves and then went to an art fair with a friend and her boyfriend. But more on that later!

Scott and I wanted to take full advantage of the beautiful evening last night so we went to the local Beer Deck (or "Bier" as they spell it in this German town). Since we live in a little river town, there are several cutesy places to go eat with great views. The Bier Deck has a two-level patio overlooking the Missouri River. They even had a band last night. I tried the Crispen Cider and Scott opted for Shiner Bock. Unfortunately my phone died before I was able to take more than one picture.

Hoping to spend a few more summer nights enjoying some cooler weather outside before the humidity takes over. Oh Missouri...

June 6 & 7: More Birthdays!

I probably won't typically have so many  birthday posts, but a lot of important people were born in June!

Let's start with my sweet friend Sommer. I met her through my great friend Jessica while I was in grad school. The first time I heard Sommer laugh, I knew immediately that I wanted to be her friend. She has the best laugh. When I lived in Springfield, we would work out to the "Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred" video several times a week...and then celebrate burning calories with a late night McDonald's run. Fun story-Sommer once made me pancakes with a dash of chili powder (thinking it was cinnamon). Sommer has turned out to be one of my closest friends. She can always make you laugh and every time I'm around her, darn it, I just want to dance! Happy Birthday (yesterday) Sommer!

The second birthday I'm celebrating today is my father's.  My brother and I were so lucky to grow up with such an awesome role model. He is the most caring and hardworking guy I know. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. I don't think he even realizes all the great qualities he has. Some of my favorite things about my dad is his corny sense of humor, his ability to polka, the never-failing love he gives his family, and his dimples. Every time I was in trouble as a kid, he'd eventually crack and start showing his dimples before you'd see him smile. That's when I knew I was in the clear. :) Even though he'll probably never read this, Dad-I love you and I'm so thankful for everything that you do.

Missouri Gems: Fox Theatre

The "Fabulous Fox Theatre" is one of my favorite places in St. Louis. This fabulous venue is home to several musicals and plays during each of their seasons. On the Fox's opening night in 1929, they showed a silent film. It was renovated in 1981 and, according to the Playbill information, has an ornate interior described as "Siamese Byzantine." That translates, to me, as gaudy. However, you can't help but feel a sense of grandeur about the place when you walk in.

Last year I saw The Lion King at the Fox with my mom and brother for my mother's birthday. She enjoyed it so much that I decided to get her tickets to the Fox again for Mother's day. On Sunday we saw "Anything Goes."

This musical was set back in 1939 on an ocean liner bound from New York to London. It was a bit of a love-triangle story: a stowaway named Billy disguises himself to be on board the ship to win over the girl he loves, Hope, who is engaged to a wealthy English lord; a nightclub singer is also on board who just happens to be in love with Billy. I particularly enjoyed the tap dancing sailors. :)

Some of the upcoming musicals at the Fox include Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, Mama Mia, and Elf. I especially want to go see Elf (Buddy the Elf! What's your favorite color?) Any takers?

Do you have any favorite plays, musicals, or venues?

Hump Day: Camel Photo-bomb

Sometimes getting to Wednesday each week is a major accomplishment for me. Maybe it was the 4 day work week last week that is making this one seem like it's lasting forever. I plan on posting fun pictures or videos some weeks to celebrate getting to Hump Day.

I'll start my first Hump Day post with an actual camel.  This is one of my favorite pictures of Scott, featuring a camel at the zoo who seems to be wanting to photo-bomb our picture. Unfortunately, this was a staged photo-bomb, but that darn camel wouldn't stop staring at us! Plus the look on Scott's face is priceless. He was definitely less than thrilled to be getting his picture taken.

What helps you get through the work week?

Tuesday Tunes: Better Weather

It's Tuesday which means...more tunes! There have been a ton of storms and horrible weather lately. Just today I was driving through town and one of the [smaller] rivers, which is usually nothing more than a babbling brook, was super flooded.

Yeah, that's a soccer goal out there..

All of this weird weather reminds me of one of my favorite songs right now. It's called "Better Weather" by Good Old War.  I started listening to Good Old War after they opened for NeedtoBreathe at their concert in Springfield, MO last October. They were super fun guys to see perform and we got to meet them afterwards. Look at the sassy man in the middle!

I highly recommend you check out their music!

June 3: Birthdays and Anniversaries

So June 3rd might be one of my new favorite days. My boyfriend was born on June 3rd, my dear friend Miss Aly was born on June 3rd, and one of my favorite couples was married on June 3rd, 2012-the Lafferty's!

Here are some pictures of my amazing friends and my sweet boyfriend. I'm so thankful for all of them. Happy June 3rd everyone! I will be celebrating with Scott over some ice cream cake. :)

Happy Birthday Miss Aly!

We were so young!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary Lafferty's!

Pinterest Project: Ticket Shadow Box

Another Pinterest inspired project! I was going through some stuff in boxes a couple months ago (in a spring cleaning effort that lasted maybe an hour). I found a ton of ticket stubs from sports events, concerts, movies, and plays that I just can't seem to part with. I have a couple favorites including 3 'N Sync concert tickets, a Backstreet Boys concert ticket, and a couple signed stubs from various artists including my favorite band NeedToBreathe. But what do you do with all those stubs? Keep them in a box in the closet?

I was browsing Pintereset awhile back and found this awesome idea: a Ticket Shadow Box. I suddenly knew that was the solution to my problem. So I immediately found a shadow box ($3 at a Goodwill!) and asked Scott to cut a slit on top so I could just slide tickets in without always taking the back off. Pretty quick and easy project and now I can show off all my ticket stubs in my living room!

Don't mind the cords!

I added some scrapbook stickers to the back: Admit One. Sadly, my shadow box is filling fast and I may soon need to invest in a larger one.
